Chicago, IL, July 2026 – Musicologie, a leader in music education, will open a new location in the north side Chicago neighborhood of Edgewater in partnership with community member, musician, and mom, Molly Rowan.
"We’ve had our sights on Chicago for a while, so we are thrilled to be partnering with Molly to bring Musicologie to Edgewater,” said Joseph Barker, co-founder of Musicologie. Unlike a typical franchisor–franchisee relationship, Molly and Musicologie founders Kay & Joseph have a long-standing friendship: they lived together in Minneapolis and collaborated musically with Molly’s late husband, Nathan Eliot.
“I joke that starting this business is just a way to get my kid to continue her piano lessons,” said Molly. “But at the heart of it, I’m excited about building this studio and its community because music helps humans learn, grow, explore, connect, reflect, celebrate, mourn, and wonder. We all need more music in our lives. It feels like a fitting tribute to Nate.”
Finding a Community Manager for the studio who’s passionate about Musicologie’s mission was important to Molly. “Mason Spencer is a perfect fit,” said Molly. “He’s truly passionate about the impact that music can have on someone’s life and their community, and he’s already done incredible work to bring music all across Chicago. I feel so lucky to have him on board.”
Molly has signed a lease on a space at Broadway and Rosedale. Musicologie Edgewater will open in early fall, and the studio will offer simply delightful music lessons through Musicologie’s four core programs: Private Lessons (all instruments, all ages, all abilities), Musicologie Junior, Accelerated Piano Lab, and RockStars.
